The European west is the richest area in the world. Never before did a civilization have such a high standard of living. This might tempt us to a soothing sleep, knowing that everything will be all right when we get up in the morning. But when you take a deeper look, under that surface, you’ll see something different. A keen eye sees that this is misguiding static information, describing a state rather than a process. So what are the processes that define the European west. (more…)

Let’s look at the common mindset of people. If we think of an person from Nigeria, we might think of an indigenous West-African and more specifically someone of the Hausa people. If we think of an indigenous person from North-America, we might think of someone of the Cheyenne people. What do we think of when we look at someone from northern Europe? Well, more often than not we just think of a human being. We don’t think of a people. WE are not a people. We are humans and everybody, except us, apparently belongs to a people.
What makes us so unique, special and historically remarkable? The answer of course has to be stupidity. If everybody else belongs to a people, guess what, we probably also belong to a people. Better yet, northern Europeans indeed are a people. It might be natural to consider yourself the default, the standard. But some minor thinking should set the record straight. (more…)

I want to talk about the concept of homeland. Until a few centuries ago, home used to be the place where you were born and grew up. This included your village and the region in which it was situated. You didn’t belong to a country. You pledged allegiance to a jarl or a king. And a culture didn’t end at a border patrol office. However, by the late 18th and early 19th century this all changed. Home became a legal entity with fixed borders, drawn on a map by a few people. So nowadays you are Dutch, German or English. Not by your own choice or the choice of your parents, but because of some judicial construction. (more…)

Modern life is quite complex. It’s easy to get sucked into this process of working, consuming, standard daily activities and social stuff. Your agenda gets stuffed and before you know it you are ‘busy’ for years in a row, living modern life to the fullest. But for those who look beyond this hyped routine, there’s this undetermined feeling, wandering restless in your mind. Being one of the few, a question keeps popping up. Why?
After lengthy philosofical journeys about the meaning of life, this question actually becomes very simple: What is my battle? And the more I discovered the asatruar lingering within my soul, and the more I learned about Asatru and the runes, the more the answer became clear to me. And I may say that the moments in which the question and the answer revealed itself, were (and still are) moments of intense focus and purpose. It’s very fulfilling to know: This is my battle!

Runes and Knowledge management. At the first glance both don’t seem to have anything in common. Knowledge management is 21st century, technology and modern civilization. Runes that is 2000 years ago, history and germanics. Couldn’t be more different than this, right?
Well, in my work as a project manager and consultant in the field of knowledge management, I am faced with problems that require people to put their knowledge and understanding of their work to the test. In a knowledge economy it’s imperative that your skills stay competitive and that your mind is focused, agile and strong. Otherwise your competitors will overtake you. (more…)

This is the first post on my site about Asatru. Ever since I, by coincidence if this exists, came across Asatru it attracted me. At that time I was a diehard atheist. It even took me some time to realize that the Northern Path had grown on me and became a part of me. I also needed some time to realize that I wasn’t an atheist anymore, which was a strange, unexpected realization.
Now I want to share my experiences and endeavours on the Northern Path. I want to live and share Asatru with others and invite others, live and on the web, to participate. Although this is not a forum, there are already enough good ones out there, I would like to invite others to share both possitive and critical opinions and feedback.
